History

With the New York Islanders slowly inching up to becoming a better team the franchise decided they needed to upgrade and renovate their arena. There was also talk with the owner of the Mets that the new arena maybe would run parallel with the Met’s ballpark or even in the neighborhood of Queens. The construction on the arena started in 2019 but was stopped in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This pushed back the original schedule they had planned for the arena to be back open after the renovation. The arena will supposedly be complete in July of 2022 as long as everything stays on track from here until next summer.

This deal is reported to be worth over $350 million dollars over the next 20 years because of how big the renovation will be and acquiring money from the state to add in different things to the arena. If the state is putting this much money into this already beautiful arena then the citizens of New York should be very excited to attend games there after it is complete. It is unsaid about where the team is currently playing their games but they may have to play them all at their opposing teams arenas until their home is complete next summer. The team would also need to have a practice facility readily available to continue to practice and so they would not lose their talents and hard working skills that have been built up over the years. The New York Islanders will be expecting many fans after the expansion and renovation of their beautiful home arena.
