History

It is on the world famous Las Vegas Strip which already attracts lots of tourists let alone for hockey purposes. Even though the Golden Knights were not announced as a team until the recent years, plans for some sort of stadium or arena were in the works since the late 2000’s. Originally though, the design was for a baseball stadium in 2007 rather than an arena. However this was shut down after determining that there was very minimal planning and that a MLB team would likely not move to the city. Again in 2013 plans for an arena came to be with the casinos in the area joining forces for the funding. This time they were good to go and started on the project in 2014 and the arena was fully built only a year after construction was first started.

It was used as an arena for concerts for a while until in 2016 the NHL announced that the Golden Knights would be playing in this arena. Besides the hockey team the venue is typically used for UFC fights as well. It is also used to host professional bull riding competitions and college basketball games from time to time. The famous Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Conor McGregor match was hosted here as well as a few games of the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately when they did see the Stanley Cup in the building it was awarded to the Washington Capitals, not the Golden Knights. However it is safe to say that the Golden Knights will be looking to reverse this outcome in the near future. A lot of history is left to be made in this arena.
